I have just been cast for an upcoming tv pilot that will be shown on A&E. Production starts this month.

This is a role I had auditioned for nearly 2 years ago.  I had a private on-camera session with Jerry before I went, where his audition techniques, personal attention, support and upfront advice was so helpful that I felt confident enough to not even be put on camera for the judges during the audition.  Now the best part is, out of over 3,000+ auditions that were held in different states, I was one of only 50 people they invited back to fill 17 lead spots.  At the final audition, I was cast in a lead recurring role in the pilot.  Now, I am going to need his help all over again in helping me to establish and build a memorable character on television.

I am so excited as I feel that God has truly blessed me and my family and I feel had I not contacted Jerry to give me auditioning advice, I would have just been another headshot on the table.  I can't wait to start production!

It was a wonderful evening, your workshop was and is great! I too was very engaged in your message and learned a lot about copy writing for commercials. The use of the camera and television was both essential and masterful; it really made the students actively participate as viewers while 'talent' offered his/her commercial audition. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

When leaving last night I ran into Kaitlyn Flannery who was also perfuse in her delight with and praise for the evening. And she thought she did pretty well too, for her first time! I then realized that she had not been a part of the Improv group which formed last semester and that this experience in your workshop really HAD been an engaging and successful experience for her. You were a hit with them.

Thank you for the workshop tonight! It was refreshing, intuitive, and ultimately fun - just what we needed to usher in these stressful, concluding days of the semester. I'm looking forward to next semester and the adventures that await!

Jerry Coyle's style of working meets in a congenial way the philosophy of Filmschule Vienna. Lots of students had frequent opportunities to gain enormously from his tailor made workshops focusing on interaction in the areas Acting-Directing-Script. That is why Jerry Coyle's work will carry on being a fixed part within the education program of Filmschule Vienna.

A further fascinating point is his knowledge of human nature. Even in a year's cycle (and numerous other opportunities he put in a fleeting appearance) he is instantly close to any student and able to assess exactly their development from their last seminar to now. This creates a basis of confidence which is of vital importance especially in the field of artistic education.

On top of that Jerry Coyle is one of the pleasant exceptions in U.S. workshop tourism. He is interested, able to develop and inventive – and efficient. So it was easy for him to adapt to the specific conditions of Filmschule Vienna. He immediately took up the philosophy, “we are teaching the students behind and in front of the camera – together!” and adjusted his teaching concept to that effect.

This kind of flexibility makes him unique as American guest teacher in German-speaking areas.

Jerry Coyle is an actor, director and an acting instructor in New York . He had come to Kosovo as a festival judge and had organized a workshop for camera acting. We met at the breakfast table in the hotel and spent the rest of the time together. He is a lovely, joyful, old chap and a punctual and clever humorist who accelerated everything with his remarkable sense of humor. We talked about everything; life, cinema, Tehran , New York and watched an Albanian play in which a live chicken was slaughtered with the blood splashing all around. Jerry hated this play, and so did I. The director said he wanted to show the cruelty of rape, something that happened many times during the war and has remained with the women of Kosovo. Jerry criticized the play because he believes that an art form shouldn't manipulate, but instead it should take the audience on a trip and slowly bring them back to their seat with the realization that something has happened.

Taking part in Jerry's workshop was an interesting experience (and he is hoping that he can organize one in Iran as well). He told me about working with Robert De Niro and his small role in “The Good Shepherd”. He said De Niro appears bashful in ordinary life and that he certainly opens up in front of the camera.

Jerry, as he puts it, was trying to open up the hearts and feelings of his students and lubricate their mind. His techniques were startling. He was asking them to say different sentences with different feelings and even asked an actress to express these feelings in her idea of speaking in Mandarin. He yelled at an actor who was trying to make everyone laugh, “Don't entertain us! You are an actor not a clown. Try to touch us not to please us.” After the class he asked me if he went too far. “Maybe a bit”, I answered. Jerry mentioned how this actor was tortured in prison. Another actor suffered greatly during the war. His pregnant sister and her husband were killed by the Serbs. His other sister and his parents died after the war due to illness and trauma. The actor needed the laugh and the fun and Jerry was trying to convey to all of the actors that acting is very “serious playing”. “In English we call it a ‘Play'”, he'd say. He told the actors that their pain and joy are their tools and actors need to enjoy expressing their feelings and to be confident portraying all their emotions. Jerry said that he had promised himself to be kind with the actors in Kosovo as they had been through so much in their lives.

Pictures of Bill Clinton could be seen all across the city. The main boulevard was named after the former U.S. President and in restaurants and coffee shops you could find pictures of President Clinton. Edi says two names became very popular after the war in Kosovo and people even used them to name their children: Tony Blair and Bill Clinton. From a cultural perspective, NATO forces are also very effective.
